Laura Rose was born in Detroit and grew up in a housing project in the inner city. She attended Wayne State University and switched her major from pre-med to art, graduating with a BFA from San Francisco State in 1976.
She put aside her painting for nine years, part of the time traveling in India. Returning to the states, she entered a full-time training in Eurythmy (harmonious movement) and Anthroposophy in Mt. Shasta, California. She later took this study of music made visible and explored it in abstract painting as color, movement and line.
| "These paintings," Laura says, "represent to me the meeting of the inner and outer worlds." |
In California, Laura has shown in Lotus Gallery in Mt. Shasta, had a one woman show at the Brown Trout Gallery in Dunsmuir, and won First Place in Etching in the Siskyou County Juried Show in 1993. She had a one woman show at Wilbur Hot Springs Health Sanctuary and the San Anselmo Art and Glass Gallery. Locally, she studied with Bill Martin. Her work has appeared in numerous shows at the Mendocino Center for the Arts, Ft. Bragg Center for the Arts, North Coast Gallery, Wilkes Sports Gallery, the Headlands Cafe, and the Fort Bragg Grille.
Her paintings are in private collections in California, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, Japan and Canada. In 1994 she had a one woman show at the Modus Vivendi Gallery in Santiago, Spain.
Currently she spends time as a pleine-aire painter in the company of her beloved friend and fellow painter, Hilda Pertha. "These paintings," Laura says, "represent to me the meeting of the inner and outer worlds."
